Relaxing at Little Earth Lodge is easy
About Little Earth Lodge
About the Lodge
Little Earth Lodge is a purpose built lodge that offers travellers quality rooms for reasonable rates.
We are located 6km from Whangarei in the countryside and en-route to the Tutukaka coast where you can dive at the famous Poor Knights Islands.
Our lodge is set in beautiful countryside with views over the Parahaki valley and is next to the Abbey Caves nature reserve where you will find 3 amazing glow worm caves.
At Little Earth Lodge we practice ecotourism and we try to minimise the adverse effects of tourism on the natural environment. Initiatives include recycling, energy efficiency, organic gardens and awareness of the local flora and fauna.
At LEL we only use natural 100% biodegradable products for all the cleaning and laundry which are safe for our environment and you.
Our water is collected from a natural spring located high up on our land. The water is then filtered and gravity fed to the house. No electricity or chemicals are used in this process and our water is completely safe to drink.
About the Owners
David and Polly bought Little Earth Lodge in October 2013, having previously lived in the UK. Before buying Little Earth Lodge they had spent 4 years traveling the world, particularly Australia and New Zealand, but also Asia, Africa and North and South America, and have also sailed across the Atlantic in a Tall Ship.
They first arrived at Little Earth Lodge as travelers in November 2009 and immediately fell in love with the Lodge and the beauty and tranquility of the surrounding area. They returned several times in the intervening years both as travelers and helpers. When Jon and Junko, the previous owners and founders, decided to move on with their young family the opportunity to buy was too good to miss.
We love Little Earth Lodge even more now and love the opportunity to meet and welcome all our guests, and share with them the beauty of our surroundings and all nature has to offer.
Self Catering Accommodation
Little Earth Lodge is ideal for guests wanting to prepare their own meals. We have a large, well equipped kitchen with refrigerators, microwave and everything you need to whip up your favorite dishes, and then choose to eat either at one of the rustic tables in the dining area, or alfresco on the deck. There is a BBQ too, just perfect for a summers evening.
The guests’ kitchen is in a separate cottage style building just a few steps from the main house. There is a cosy lounge as well with DVDs, table football, book exchange and board games.
We are very enthusiastic about recycling at Little Earth Lodge, and you will find clearly labeled re-cycling bins in the kitchen.
Of course, if you wish to eat out, Whangarei has a large selection of take-aways and restaurants of all types and to cater for all budgets that are only 10 minutes drive away. Or try our favorite, the Parua Bay Tavern, where you can eat fab fish n chips or yummy stone baked pizzas on their deck while gazing out over the water.
